Singled Colored Themes
These leaves are done in oil. My strength lies in using alot of 'diverse' colours on a single canvas. Thus, I am practicing creating single colored themes, using many colours. I am also very impatient when I work. Impatient to render exactly the way, I see... to concentrate and capture the exact. This impatience helps me to imagine and create without controlling.

well done! supa interesting. I love the red leaves. There is a lot to be said about rspid, spontaneous work.
My suggestion is somewhat counter to what you are attempting - but would you consider a return to basics - like a pencil work. This might be tedious, but might teach the eyes to natuarally start picking out the subtleties of light and texture?
Perhaps I will pick on your idea of monochrome still-lifes too for my next study.

i think you have to consider whether your impatience is a hinderence or an asset.. seems like you consider it an asset..
i like the treatment of the surfaces, working the painting as a whole. very nice. red leaves speak to me more. i think that green leaves is lacking some interest. red leaves have more colour study, and surface interest. In green leaves I am more interested in the background and negative spaces.
My suggestion is to give some thought toward the end of the work possibly as you like to create with "no thought".
Well said pooj, and at the risk of echoing - nirali your study could continue. in your case - you have instinctively picked out the essentials of the composition in terms of light and texture. the question to ask is - what is the next level of detailing that you can pick out while remaining honest to your instinct of staying spontaneous. some delicate hues and tones? some detailed patterns?
girl - do you remember the still life drawings that we did in foundation :) im beginning to think that we might all benefit from some of the back-to-school stuff. re-enact the entire progress...
The composition is very interesting by the way. i like the way the frame is crowded in with the leaves, its almost like a jungle at close quarters - in your face!
hey gurls, Thanks for your comments. Yes, I do consider the spontaneity an asset ( I guess I have to, as thats the way I work!)
About concentrating on detailing, I have figured out that when, I try to do that, my work turns out too stylised.
As I have been painting for quite sometime... I guess a style is developed... and its very strenous to get back to basics, but yes, I shall work on some charcoal still lifes.
