Carrots & Flowers

This blog is a document of the process of three artists creating seven paintings each over a period of ten months for a group exhibition. It is a rich document of each artists personal journey through weekly notes. Peer critiques play an important role in documenting the dialog between the 3 artists while also providing an external perspective on this honest and introspective process.

Im not sure what you mean by 'two' forms - seems like there are more than that. in any case, i am interested in the idea of switching to pastels for rapid sketches. did you do this because you thought that oils were more labor and time intensive?
I like that you are sticking with exploring the natural forms theme. i would worry about maintaining the 'cleaness' of the colours as you have done in the carrots...
nice going :)
I like the way you treat the surface of your work. I suppose I notice this first because it is a weakness in my own painting..
anyway, nice piece. I like the little sguiggles in the background - they add interest to the piece. I also like the darker outline on some of the forms. Nice choice of colour as well. One thing though, I think that my eye gets stuck on the top half of the piece. Although the bottom half does offer relief from the warm colours with the blue, I think they could read as 2 pieces..
I think these are good exercises, but to me they read only as exercises. I like the narration quality in your other works - the ones you consider childlike. They seem much more interesting to me, and I wouldn't try to stiffle the child in you.
