Going Nowhere - Poetry and Sketches
Girls, here it is. I have compiled the drawings and poems I made on the Going Nowhere Tour with Lounge Piranha. It's a set of 25.

Hey Arcna,
As usual your sketches were brilliant. What I was thinking as these ink sketches are a really good, and you use simarly imagery with paint. Why not incorporate ink sketches along with paint on your canvas... I think it would really work well. And are you doing bigger canvases now?
sadly enough - i am not working on canvases at this point. I hope to though in the coming weeks. In fact that's what Im going to be pushing at.
here has been my dilemma for a long long time. In fact since last year. i feel most comfortable drawing and writing my poetry...how the hell to do i resolve them onto larger work - where do i take it from here.
the logical situation is to simply take a large canvas and draw as i do...just as you suggested...but this is not happening. I do not have the fluidity required with oils or acrylics on canvas that i do with ink on paper right...so the next step is to grow my paper size larger and dimply ink them...perhaps this is the way i will take it...
infact i met shantamani a couple of months ago and talking with her, and seeing her work-in-progress, where she makes her own paper and plays freely with charcoal was inspirational...

Brilliant brilliant work. I LOVE it. I can see books; thick, fat coffee table books with your images and poetry.
They are totally precious. I love the poems too. Very profound. You have the knack of writing to connect with people. When I read your works I think, yes, thats true..what a beautiful way to say it. Going Nowhere, Lines, all beautiful pieces.
I think if you want, you can stick to small images. Like indian miniatures. Almost like, the works are so precious that you have to get closer to appreciate them.
Your line is beautiful too, so I really think you will enjoy painting on wood. its surface is so smooth and you can achieve a real brilliant, detailed work on it.
Dont force yourself to make large works. It will come when you are ready.

Keep at what you're doing. Art is art in any medium. Yes, it would be beautiful to see your works on a large sale, but it will come to you.

actually I have seen Persepolis. So many people have told me about it that when it released here I ran to the theater and got me a seat.
When I got back from the show I thought - ah damn it! that was soooo good and memorable, that whenever anyone sees my work they will think in their head 'ah another copy cat of Marjane Satrapi'. But then pretty soon I thought, wow, I really should write to her - it seems that we share something. Like a similar wavelength.
After that i began to see traces of this style of self imagery accompanying and poetry or prose by women artists across the Asia and other less "Western" societies.
I think its an emerging pattern that will be noticed later by Art Historians when it boils to the surface over the next few years.
I really like your idea for the wood. I didnt know that it would be smooth to work on...somehow i imagined that it would be rough and splintered. I will go back to your posts on how to treat it and get cracking at it.
arch, i dont think you're a copy cat of marjane. far from it. i just see a similarity in the line and black and white. your work is original, and remember theres only one of you, and what comes out of your head is definitely one of a kind!
yeah, check out the wood. but they have to be wood panels. you can also just gesso them if you want - a couple of times and sand in between each layer after it has dried.
i think you will like that texture. good luck.
